When it comes to a large tsunamis only one occurs every 10 years, recent tsunami to hit was in Japan, on March 11,2011 with a magnitude of 9.0. This is the 5th most powerful underwater earthquake to hit Japan.Tsunami can only occur if it is ranked at 6.75 or higher on the Richter scale. Tsunamis are unique but also very fast. Tsunamis are just a large series of waves created when a large volume of water is shifted.
